SOSNOVKA, the historical name of the area to the south-east of St. Petersburg, between the Neva River, Narodnaya Street and Bolshevikov Avenue. It was named after the manor of A.I. Chernyshev "Sosnovka" (72 Oktyabrskaya Embankment; 1891-93, architect A.I. von Gogen with the participation of architect A.I. Kuznetsov). In 1926-27, a residential block for workers of the Fifth Hydroelectric Power Station (Krasny Oktyabr, Red October) was constructed at nos. 90-96 Oktyabrskaya Embankment. In the early 1960s, the territory was mainly developed with standard mass produced residential blocks of flats.
