TORFYANOE, an area to the north of St. Petersburg, between Pargolovo in the west and Parnas industrial zone in the east. The name comes from a village of the same name that appeared in the late 1920s owing to peat digging developed in this region (today, there are vast water quarries that replaced the mined peat bogs). After peat digging was stopped in the late 1960s, a machine-building factory was opened in Torfyanoe. There is an extensive tract of horticulture land belonging to Klimovets, 0.5 kilometres to the north of Torfyanoe.
