LEO TOLSTOY SQUARE, at the intersection of Bolshoy Avenue of Petrogradskaya Side and Kamennoostrovsky Avenue. The square was named in the 1920s after the neighbouring street of the same name (since 1798 - Arkhiereiskaya Square, since 1918 - Leo Tolstoy Street). It is considered as a unique architectural ensemble of the early 20th century Retrospectivism, exemplified with the house of Rosenstein (House with Towers, 35 Kamennoostrovsky Avenue) featuring elements of English Gothic (1913-15, architect K.I. Rosenstein, facades were designed by architect A.E. Belogrud) and buildings along Bolshoy Avenue of Petrogradskaya Side: Building 77 (1913, architect Belogrud) in Palladian style; Building 79 (1910, architect S.S. Korvin-Krukovsky), Building 102 (1912-15, architects E.I. Gonzkievicz, Belogrud). The ensemble is amplified with buildings on Kamennoostrovsky Avenue: Buildings 31-33 (1904, architect P.M. Mulkhanov), Building 36 (Women Institute of Princess Oldenburgskaya; 1840s, architect L.Y. Tiblen; 1890s, architect V.V. Schaub; 1905, architect I.A. Pretro), Building 38 (1910-11, architect V.I. Van-der-Gucht); Buildings 35b (1910-11, architect D.A. Kryzhanovsky). The House with Towers served as quarters for City Railroad (Tramway) Administration until 1917; in 1921-72, there was Ars Cinema Hall; in 1978-85, the hall was adjusted to accommodate the Experiment Theatre (today, there is Petersburg Mironov Russian Enterprise Theatre).
