KONYUSHENNY BRIDGES (Stables' bridges), two bridges across the Moika River near the building of the Department of Stables (hence the name). The Bolshoy Konyushenny Bridge (formerly Greek, named after the neighbouring Greek Settlement; Grebetskoy; the bridge near Moshkova Lane; Konyushenny; Second Konyushenny), connects Moshkov and Konyushenny lanes. It was rebuilt in 1828 (engineer E. A. Adam, with the participation of V.I. Hastie, V.K. Traitteur, K.N. Berd) in place of the previous wooden three-span bridge dating from 1753 (master C. van Boles). The span is covered with fixed cast iron slating tubing vault. Supports are made from rough stone and faced with granite. In 1935, a part of the supports and spandrel brick infill were replaced with reinforced-concrete solid fixed vault (engineers M.I. Zhdanov, A.D. Saperstein, the adviser professor G. P. Peredery). In 1951, lanterns and decor of cast iron were restored (architect A.L. Rotach). In 1999, the waterproofing, the railings, facades and standing lamps were restored (engineer B.N. Brudno). The length is 28.8 metres, width 11.6 metres. Maly Konyushenny Bridge (previously known as: Konyushenny; the first Konyushenny; Trekharkovy; Trekhkolenny; Troinoy) is near the source of Griboedov Canal along its axis. The bridge already existed here already in 1716, later it was placed closer to the modern Second Sadovy Bridge. In the second half of the 18th century the wooden three-span drawbridge was constructed. In 1829-30, under the projects by Traitteur and Adam the new bridge was erected: spans are covered with cast iron vaults made of tubings. Adjacent to the neighbouring Teatralny Bridge to the side of the stables, an arch of a false bridge is located and together with the Maly Konyushenny Bridge they form a single, strictly symmetrical composition. In 1952 the lost decor, standing lamps, lanterns and fences of Maly Konyushenny Bridge were reconstructed. In 1990-97, in the course of capital repairs (the engineer B.N. Brudno, architect A.A. Potapov) a solid reinforced-concrete vault was installed above the old cast iron vault; decor, standing lamps, lanterns, bridge railing were reconstructed; diabase paving was added. The length is approximately 33 metres, width 15.6 metres.
