REZANOV, Alexander Ivanovich (1817 – 1887), architect, artist. Graduated from the Academy of Arts (1839), associate academy member (1850), professor (1852), Rector of the Academy of Arts. First chairman of the St. Petersburg society of architects (1870-87). Author of the introduction of large scale use of Historicism styles in St. Petersburg. Designed the palace of Grand Prince Vladimir Alexandrovich at 26 Dvortsovaya Embankment (1867-72; see Vladimirsky Palace). Engaged in interior decorations (Conference Hall of the Academy of Arts, 1864-66; house at 39 Liteiny Avenue), architectural design utilizing small forms (architectural elements in the garden of Mikhailovka Mansion, 1860s; Count M.N. Muravyev’s chapel and burial vault at Lazarevskoe Cemetery, 1868). Buried at Smolenskoe Orthodox Cemetery.
