KOROTKOV Nikolay Sergeevich (1874-1920, Petersburg), surgeon, Doctor of Medicine (1910). He graduated from Moscow University (1898). Korotkov moved to St. Petersburg in 1903, where he worked in the clinic of hospital surgery of the Military Medical Academy. Later he worked at Peter the Great Hospital. His sound method of measuring the arterial pressure is admitted to be the world standard by the World Health Organization. Korotkov was buried in Bogoslovskoe Cemetery. In 1988 the Medical Society in the honour of Korotkov was set up in St. Petersburg. There is a memorial plaque in the building of the Military Medical Academy (3 Pirogovskaya Embankment).
