Sklifosovsky N. V., (1836-1904), surgeon

SKLIFOSOVSKY NIKOLAY VASILIEVICH (1836-1904), surgeon. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Moscow University in 1859. In 1871-78 he worked at the chair of Surgical Pathology and Therapy of Medical Surgical Academy. He lived at 8 Stremyanaya Street. In 1880 Sklifosovsky moved to Moscow. In 1893-1902 he was director of the Eleninsky Institute for the Advanced Training of Doctors in St. Petersburg. He successfully propagated the achievements of antiseptics and aseptics among surgeons at the Institute for Advanced Training. In 1893-1900 he lived at 6 Mokhovaya Street, and later moved to 14 Grodnensky Lane (he never lived at the flat because of his illness). In the vestibule of the former building of the Eleninsky Institute (41 Kirochnaya Street; now the Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education) there is a memorial plaque in his honour.
