SKATING RINKS. Natural skating rinks on the Neva River and other ponds have been being arranged in St. Petersburg since the beginning of the 18th century. The first public skating rink was opened in 1865 in Yusupovsky Garden as the skating rink of the first St. Petersburg Skating Club. Afterwards public skating rinks were created in large city gardens (Tavrichesky Garden, Stroganovsky Garden on Chernaya River and others). At the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century the first indoor skating rinks appeared (in the Buff Garden on Fontanka River, in the Aquarium and others). After October 1917, skating rinks were arranged in stadiums, parks and gardens (TsPKiO (Central Park of Culture and Recreation) named after S. M. Kirov, Moskovsky and Primorsky Victory Parks and others). At the end of the 1950s first artificial skating rinks appeared (the largest ones were located at Yubileiny Palace of Sport, in Sport-Concert Complex, 8 Yury Gagarin Prospect).
