BAKHTIAROV Anatoly Alexandrovich (1851-1916), the writer, publicist. On graduating from the Moscow Seminary for Teachers (1874) he taught Russian at the St. Petersburg Military School of Medical Assistants. He published essays about the characteristics of the St. Petersburg population in the newspaper Sankt-Peterburgskie Novosti as well as in other editions from the middle of the 1880s, they were united into the cycle Bryukho Peterburga (Belly of Petersburg) (separately published in 1887; 2 issues - St. Petersburg, 1994), where he described everyday life of labourers, torch-bearers, peddlers, small-time traders and other groups of the city population. He was in retirement from 1901, he lived on literary work, he is the author of over 20 books about the city and citizens, including the following: Tramps: Sketches from Nature (1903), People of Experience: Sketches From the Lives of Those Who Have Perished (1903), Proletarian and Street Types of Petersburg: Everyday Features (1895) etc., he also took part in compiling guide-books of St. Petersburg, wrote short stories.
