BASSEINAYA STREET, translated as Pool Street, between Kubinskaya Street and Vitebsky Avenue. The name originated from a canal (pool) that was then in design. The street is roughly in line with the former Azovskaya Street, Erivanskaya Street, and Vyatskaya Street. It included Turku Street in 1964-87. It was developed in 1950-70s with a tall spired tower accentuating the intersection with Moskovsky Avenue (houses 41 and 194). Block-slab construction technology was applied by architect A. I. Belorusov et al. to build Giprogor Institute (today, Russian Research and Development Institute of Urban Science) at 21 Basseynaya Street in 1967-69. Climber V. S. Balyberdin, actor E. Z. Kopelyan in 1962-75, and actor V. I. Strzhelchik in 1971-90 lived at 47 Basseynaya Street.
