UHLAN LIFE GUARDS REGIMENT, cavalry guards regiment. Its origin goes back to the Odessa Hussar Regiment, formed in 1803, which served the basis of the Uhlan Regiment of His Highness which was formed the same year. In 1809 the regiment was divided into the Uhlan Life Guards Regiment and the Dragoon Life Guards Regiment. From 1894 after the designation by Empress Alexandra Fedorovna as its patron, it was named Uhlan Life Guards Empress Alexandra Fedorovna's Regiment. The regiment participated in the wars with France (1805, 1806-07, 1812-14), in the Russo-Swedish War of 1808-09, in the Russo-Turkish Wars of 1828-29 and 1877-78, in suppressing the Polish Insurrection of 1830-31, in WW I of 1914-18. The quarters of the regiment were located in Peterhof around Ulanskaya Street. In early 1918 the regiment was disbanded.
