SPIRIDONOV Ivan Vasilievich (1905-1991), Soviet statesman and party worker. Since 1928 a member of All-Union Communist Party (bolshevist). In 1925-39 he was a worker at Leningrad plants. After graduating from Leningrad Industrial Correspondence College (1939) he held technical engineering posts, and was operations director in Orel and Kuznetsk, in 1944-40, the director of Leningrad plant Gosmetr. In 1950-52, a secretary of Moskovsky district party committee in Leningrad. In 1952-54, vice-chairman of the executive committee of Leningrad regional Soviet of people's deputies. Since 1954 a secretary of Leningrad regional party committee of Communist Party of the Soviet Union, since 1956 the 1st secretary of Leningrad city committee of Communist Party of the Soviet Union, in 1957-62 the 1st secretary of Leningrad regional party committee of Communist Party of the Soviet Union. A member of the Central Committee (1961-71), a secretary of the Central Committee of Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1961-62). At the 22nd congress of Communist Party of the Soviet Union (October of 1961) he proposed to remove I.V. Stalin's body from the Mausoleum. In 1962-70, a chairman of the Soviet of the Union of Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He had been in retirement since 1970.
