CHALIAPIN F. I. MEMORIAL FLAT (2b Graftio Street) is a branch of the Museum of Theatre and Music Art. The Chaliapin F. I. Memorial Flat was opened in 1975 in the flat where F. I. Chaliapin lived in 1914-22. The exhibition consists of the actor's archives and personal articles, kept by his friend I. G. Dvorishchev. Articles include the original decor of the living room, dining room, and bedroom; a collection of weapons presented to the singer by M. Gorky; a collection of fine Russian art pieces from the end of the 19th century - beginning of the 20th century, including the works by A. N. Benois, A. Y. Golovin, and K. A. Korovin; and a portrait of Chaliapin painted by B. M. Kustodiev and presented to the museum by the singer's daughters in 1968. On display are Chaliapin's theatrical costumes, photos, and documents related to his life and creative work. The museum's collection holds rich material related to the history of the Russian opera theatre - librettos, original opera sheet music, set-design and costume sketches, and original costumes. The Chaliapin F. I. Memorial Flat receives up to 20 thousand guests annually, and provides lectures with videotape recordings of opera performances and concerts. Guided tours are accompanied by sound recordings. The building which today houses the Chaliapin F. I. Memorial Flat (1901, architect D. Ryabov), will eventually house the Museum of Russian Opera Art, for which restoration work has already been carried out.
