LANDSKRONA (from the Swedish "Landskron", meaning the crown of land), a Swedish fortress, built in 1300 at the confluence of the Okhta River and the Neva River. Fortifications at Landskrona consisted of an earthen rampart, wooden walls with towers and a ditch between the Okhta River and the Neva River. The year it was built, Novgorod tried and failed to take siege of Landskrona; in 1301, Russian troops, under the supervision of the Grand Prince of Vladimir and Novgorod Andrey Alexandrovich, took Landskrona by storm and destroyed it. In the 17th century, the Swedish fortress Nyenschanz was situated where Landskrona had been.
