VOLOGDIN ALL-RUSSIAN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF HIGH-FREQUENCY CURRENTS, located at Shuvalovsky Park. It was established in 1947 as the Scientific Research Institute for the Use of High-Frequency Currents, based on the laboratory of V. P. Vologdin (the institute was named after him in 1953) at the Leningrad Electro-Technical Institute. The institute specializes in induction surface hardening. In the 2000s, the sphere of research was widened due to the use of ultrasonic, plasma and other methods in the construction of medical apparatus, cleaning and fusing monocrystals for microelectronics, welding etc. The main building of the institute is the former palace of Countess E. A. Vorontsova-Dashkova (1912-14, architect S. S. Krichinsky). There is a bust of Vologdin in front of the building (1954, sculptor A. N. Chernitsky).
