CIVIL CONTROL (87 Ligovsky Avenue), public human rights organisation. It was initiated in 1992 to provide for the Parliament's and people's control over the activity of secret services, army and militia in order to prevent their violation of the constitutional rights of citizens. The priority guidelines of the activity of the association include ensuring openness of information, and reform of law enforcement agencies. Civil Control holds seminars discussing laws on activity of governmental agencies and suggestions on their improvement. In 1992-2003, Civil control carried out over 100 conferences and seminars, published 40 books and brochures on the subject of human rights. B.P. Pustyntsev has been a chairman of the association since its foundation.
