POZITRON ( Pozitron Research and Development Association) (6 Ivana Fomina Street), an open joint-stock company, uniting a number of scientific institutions and industrial establishments in electronic industry. It was founded in 1969, and became the first Research and Development Association in the country, uniting seven Leningrad plants and institutes, and 4 branches in the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. The Association was managed by the Ministry of Electronics of the USSR, and specialised in research and development of condensers, resistors and other electronic products. The plant also manufactured Electronica, the first transportable TV set, and videotape recorders. The products of the Company were exported to 27 countries. The Research and Development Association took part in providing technical assistance to some space programs (Soyuz Apollon, Phobos, etc.). In 1992 the Association was reorganised into a joint-stock company. In 2002 the joint-stock company united VIT special design bureau, Pozitron construction and assembling management organization, Vikond company, Vitel plant, Maxim school plant, and two shops. Pozitron continues manufacturing TV sets, video tapes, plastic goods, and employs 450 teenagers at the only St. Petersburg School Plant.
